Below is a summary of changes and guidance for consultants on how to use them for projects.

Summary of Updates:

• See Excel file in ZIP folder for all updates since previous versions.
• Pay Item Updates: SPs have been revised to match the City of Grand Rapids 2021 Standard Construction Specifications Revision 1.3 (the “red book”). Download to the red book can be found at this link: https://grandrapidsmi-us.govstack.com/departments/engineering/engineering-document-center/
• Formatting: MDOT formatting, punctuation, and abbreviation updates have been incorporated.
• Specified Products have been eliminated and products are included in each special provision.

   

Using the GR SPs on Your Project

Pay Item SPs are in the ZIP folder in the PDF titled: GR STD Special Provisions - (date)

• Start with the full SP PDF.
• Make a project-specific copy and remove all SPs that don’t apply. Be sure the associated bookmarks are deleted – this is required for MDOT review.
• Use Grand Rapids pay items wherever applicable. For example, use the item “Curb and Gutter, (width) by (thickness) inch pan, Det P-5” instead of MDOT F-4 curb. Details for these items are in the red book and must be included in MDOT submittals.
• If an item is not in the GR SP PDF, use the MDOT standard pay item.

Clauses, MOT, and Utility Coordination:

• Word documents in the ZIP folder will be filled out for every project.

Unique SPs:

• If a custom SP is needed, please contact Jim Herman for the template.
